Patricia J. S. Colberg is Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Idaho.  She spent 23 years at the University of Wyoming where she was the first women to achieve the rank of professor in the College of Engineering and Applied Science.  She holds a B.S. degree (with Honors) from North Dakota State University and an M.S. degree from the University of Idaho.  She was the first female to be awarded the Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at Stanford University in 1983.  She is a licensed professional engineer.  Her expertise includes areas of both basic and applied research, but are largely focused on remediation of organic and metal contaminants in the subsurface.  She was named an Education Fellow by the National Academy of Sciences in 2004.
